Seller verification

A verification ladder, not a wall

You only verify as far as your selling activity requires. Each step clearly shows what it unlocks, and we minimize the sensitive data we ever touch.

The principle

Casual sellers shouldn't need an LLC or an EIN to list a used jacket. Publishing and payout permissions scale with risk and completion — not a one-size-fits-all gate. We never require a card on file for free sellers unless they buy a subscription or paid service.

The tiers

  1. 1Basic account

Unlocks: Create a free account and a draft store.

Data: Email + password (or magic link).

  2. 2Contact verification

    Unlocks: Publish standard-goods listings.

    Data: Confirmed email; phone optional.

  3. 3Payout onboarding

Unlocks: Receive payouts on completed orders.

Data: Payments-provider onboarding status only — we never store full bank details.

  4. 4Identity (provider)

Unlocks: Higher limits and high-ticket listings.

Data: Verified via a KYC provider abstraction — we store the result, not your ID images.

  5. 5Business / KYB (provider)

Unlocks: Business plan tools, bulk/liquidation, brand storefront.

Data: Business verified via a KYB provider — we store the result, not your EIN documents.

  6. 6Enhanced (high-risk)

Unlocks: Vehicles/real-estate leads, regulated review categories, very high-ticket.

Data: Extra checks for high-risk sellers/categories.

Data minimization

We use provider abstractions for identity (KYC) and business (KYB) checks. Gideon stores the outcome and a reference — not SSNs, EIN documents, or ID images. Payout details live with the payments provider, not in our database.
